Plasma Television? Is CRT Better For Color?

One of the main things to look at when you are looking at plasma television is resolution, because this determines what type of plasma you will buy.

Currently the best resolution is 1080p or 1920 x 1080 pixels.

However, the P stands for progressive, meaning that there are no lines on the picture.

The reason I say that this is the best resolution to buy, is that 1080p content can be displayed in a native or high resolution mode, without any upscaling or picture adjustment by the internal scaler circuitry.

This ensures that you are getting the best quality image no matter what resolution signals that you are viewing...

That being said, this does not mean that all signals are 1080p, in fact TV broadcasts are in a realm of their own, with lower resolution programming being upscaled to fit the channels default resolution format, whatever that may be...

Now currently tv stations are transmitting in a wide range of formats, but the most common is 720p, which is within the range of a 1080p screen...

A Plasma Television has pixels which are individually controlled to produce the picture, and this is also how computer screens are measured, in pixels.

So when you connect a computer to your 1080p plasma, you will get superior resolution of the pc's output onto the screen compared to a 720p tv set...

Regular CRT TV sets have a picture that is made up of lines that are scanned every other frame, giving a good quality picture but at the expense of some flicker that becomes evident after you have viewed a plasma TV for a while.

The subjective look of a good quality plasma TV is almost unbeatable including the fact that plasma provides the best color reproduction out there...

Although some of the best quality CRT tv's are not far behind in the picture quality arena, they just cannot compare at higher resolutions...

Also widescreen or 16:9 is out of the range of crt tv sets, as they cannot compete in this area.

Also screen size is another area where crt sets are outclassed.

They simply cannot be made larger than about 32" but plasma can go to gargantuan sizes like 60" with ease...
